Family UpDate

Well since I never post I thought I better at least do a christmas update. It's been a long busy year. We did a lot of traveling and school activities that have kept us very busy. The kids are loving homeschool mixed with public school. We still teach at home but they get the services they need for speech. Plus we get activities at the school which is great. Last week they were in the talent show, it was so cute.

Nate is still working hard at his job. It is growing a lot. This year they doubled in size. He still is in the guard as well 3 more years or 6 if he wants to retire. He also has kept busy around here. This year he planted our first garden and it did fairly well. He put new carpet in the kids rooms and several other little household projects. He also battled some kidney problems this summer. We think it was related to lead poisoning he got a Army summer camp.

I have been busy with school for the kids and trying to keep up with the house. I have to admit sometimes the house falls behind. After spending the day teaching its hard to get up the energy to keep my house as nice as I used too. My heart is staying about the same. My medication helps but it makes me very tired so I have to admit I don't take it all the time. Just when I'm doing really bad. I also have been having fun serving as an achievement day leader. The girls are a lot of fun.

Anthony is in 5th grade Home School. He is doing awesome. He was recently tested and they said he was on level in everything except his processing speed. It takes him longer to do it but he does it right. He still gets to do speech therapy from the school for his stuttering. He is loving the 11 year old scouts. But mostly he keeps busy with skateboarding and play station.

Paul is my lego building king. He could spend his whole life with a box of legos and be happy. He is making great improvements in school. He has reached a 3rd grade level in reading and is on level in all his other areas. He loves Math but he won't admit it if you ask. He is still working of his speech and reading with his teacher at the school every other week.

Bristole is in 2nd grade at home now too. She loves school especially reading. She is taking 3rd grade reading this year. She is all girl and I love that. She just started activity days at church and her baptism is next week. She is so excited and we are so proud. She loves being a big sister and is always playing house, tea party, or dancing.

Brook is still a little whirlwind. She can climb and get into things faster than anything. Especially since we started potty training. She thinks the stool to help her get on the potty is for getting her anywhere kitchen counters, on the washer, on the computer desk wherever. She is a joker and always keeps us laughing as well. She even does it on purpose to make us laugh not just normal kid silly stuff. It's fun to watch. She's growing up to fast.

Well Thats about everything for us. Maybe I'll be a better blogger this year. Hope you all have a Happy Holiday

It sounds like your busy! It is nice to hear about your family. I wish I was ambitious enough to post something. I hope Bristole had a wonderful day Saturday! Love you-

I know this is a super old post, but I had to comment on your note about Anthony's processing speed. We just had an extensive assessment of Roddy done at the University (to test for learning disorders, ADHD, etc), & one of the main findings was that he had *very* low processing speed. Interesting that both of them have that. I wonder if there are any genetic implications there?

That is strange. I'm glad I had him tested because the processing speed makes a lot more sense for Anthony then ADD like the special ed lady at the school said she thought he had. We knew Anthony was not ADD it just became a matter of finding the right diagnosis and program for him. His teachers now reduce his goals for speed work and give him longer for memorization tests (like states and capitols ect.) and he feels much better about school and himself.

That's good....& definitely a relief! Same with Rod....he was dx'ed with ADD for a LONG time, & that's what his IEP was based on. But this new assessment actually ruled out ADD & found extremely low processing speed & a written expression disorder. We're feeling like it's a lot more accurate, but we don't know yet what it will mean for any potential modifications of his IEP. (The attendees to the last meeting said these findings were a lot more rare than stuff like ADD, so they're not sure what needs to be done. They said they would research it.)
